Plain & Fancy collage of cabinetry

Plain & Fancy a longstanding custom cabinet maker located at 2550 Stiegel Pike in Schaefferstown, PA was acquired by Fabuwood creating a partnership that is sure to help both companies.

Just north of Lancaster Pennsylvania the Plain & Fancy factory has produced high end custom cabinetry for over 50 years. Pain & Fancy founder John Achey who began the company in 1968 making cabinetry in his garage created a rapidly growing brand that now manufactures their line in a 44,000 square foot facility. While small compared to Fabuwood’s one million square foot manufacturing plant Plain & Fancy is one of the largest custom cabinet makers in the state of Pennsylvania.

Some Trivia below:

Main Line Kitchen Design’s President Paul McAlary is first cousins to Kevin McAlary President of Eagle Associates. Eagle Associates is the largest sales organization for Plain & Fancy and represents the brand throughout all of New England. Kevin’s Pulitzer Prize winning brother Mike McAlary, who unfortunately died very young, was played by Tom Hanks on Broadway. The play about Mike McAlary’s life was named Lucky Guy and was written by Nora Ephron and directed by Mike Nichols. Watch clip here.

The state of Pennsylvania is known for it’s custom cabinetry.

This is partly due to the large Amish and Mennonite communities that settled around Lancaster and central Pennsylvania. Some of the other well known Pennsylvania custom cabinet makers include Wood-Mode, Craftmaid, Kountry Kraft, and Wellsford. These custom brands like Plain & Fancy are not small shops but large cabinet making plants that mass produce custom cabinetry.
